The album is called Merging, and the music is lively, smooth, compositional, sexy, and refreshing. It fits no category, but has elements of so many that anyone with ears has a pretty good chance to like it. The talent of these musicians is undeniable. Many of the band members are known already from playing with other groups. Viscus started out about four years ago as a trio, including Micah Carbonneau, who was a member of nine different bands at once as recently as this summer. Mr. Carbonneau plays bass for Viscus, but also plays guitar and drums. A graduate of North Country Union High School, Mr. Carbonneau has managed to make his living with music lately, but will give up six of these other bands in order to participate in the tour with Viscus. “I did have a roofing and painting business for quite a while,” he said, but he decided to drop that in favor of chances to play music. He is still playing with a duo and with the New Gypsy Swing Quintet. Mr. Carbonneau said he knows that this work demands commitment, and he’s committed to Viscus. It was not hard to choose which band he wanted to concentrate on. “My heart soared every time I was with these guys. It felt like art,” he said. Ira Friedman, who grew up in Sutton, stopped working for the Old School Builders — at least for the winter — to go where Viscus might take him. Mr. Friedman plays keyboard and wrote most of the songs Viscus plays. Mr. Friedman has been writing songs ever since he was in high school. Sometimes he thinks of lyrics first, and other times the music comes first. “It happens every possible way really,” he said. “I just try to grab it when I get the chance.” He often carries a tape recorder. If it’s not handy he has been known to write on a napkin while driving down the road. Both Luke Laplant and Mr. Friedman have studied at William Paterson University in New Jersey. 03-20-10 Live at the Catamount Arts in St. JohnsburyVermont Songwrtier Round The local chapter of the Nashville Songwriters Association International will present an evening of original acoustic music that will feature country, pop, folk and even rock compositions. Hosted by John Heartson, the regional chapter co-ordinator for NSAI, the performance will feature the talents of local songwriters Eric Brinkerhoff, Michael Hahn, David Maguire, Don Sinclair with Jennifer Grossi and Steve Wright. The Songwriters Round performance format was made famous at the legendary Blue Bird Cafe in Nashville and has now become a popular means of showcasing works of songwriters all over the world The idea behind the Songwriters Round is simple: four performers sit on stage at the same time and take turns to play. The performer is encouraged to chat a little about his or her work before s/he performs each song. After the song ends, the next performer would follow, and so on. Thus, round and round it goes, as original songs are performed in an environment that is more reminiscent of a chatty living room than a concert stage. The Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) consists of a body of creative minds, including songwriters from all genres of music, professional and amateur, who are committed to protecting the rights and future of the profession of songwriting, and to educate, elevate, and celebrate the songwriter and to act as a unifying force within the music community and the community at large. Eric Brinkerhoff (Mr. "E") Mr. E performs Bluesy Americana Songs in a unique finger picking style influenced by Guy Van Duser, Mississippi John Hurt, and the Beatles, with lyrics that transport you right into the song. Born in Oregon, raised in Idaho, he followed the music across the USA, moving from town to town, including Austin, New Orleans and even Brooklyn. Eric now lives in Danville Vermont and owns Melody Hill Farm. Michael Hahn - Michael plays a tasty blend of rock, country, blues and reggae spiced with the authentic maple flavoring of a third-generation Vermonter. Michael majored in Arranging and Composition at the Berklee School of Music, has performed for decades with popular dance bands, and is the author of five books and hundreds of magazine articles. David Maguire - David has been playing music for most of his life. He started performing when he was only eight, and later spent years playing the bar scene in New England and Florida. Tiring of that, he took a long break and came back determined to write and play his own songs. For the last eight years, he has split his time between his home in northeastern Vermont and Nashville. He plays occasionally throughout New England, and he can be seen in Nashville at such venues as the Bluebird Café. Just like his travels back and forth between New England and Tennessee, David? music travels the roads between contemporary folk and country, with the large part of acoustic singer/songwriter thrown into the mix. Artists from James Taylor to Jonathan Edwards, David Wilcox to Richard Shindell and Beth Nielson Chapman to Brad Paisley have all had their impact on his style. David released his first, full length CD, "Lucky Dog," in 2009 and is busily working on new songs for his next CD Don Sinclair & Jennifer Grossi "Rather than decide what they want to be when they grow up, Don & Jenn make music in styles ranging from Joni to Jobim. Let them take you with guitar, flute and voice through Jazz, Country, Folk, Blues, Serious, Silly and many points between." Steve Wright- Growing up in the North East Kingdom, Steve Wright immersed himself in a small but enthusiastic bluegrass community writing songs, playing guitar, mandolin, bass and the five- string banjo. In the 1980’s Steve received national recognition, appearing with the group “Pickin’ Up Steam” on the Grand Ol’ Opry stage in Nashville, Tennessee. For the last fifteen years, he has been writing, performing, and recording with the acclaimed “Gopher Broke Bluegrass” band. His original material can be heard on their three CD’s. Steve is currently occupied in the pursuit of happiness, writing and performing with “The Bayley Hazen Boys”.

STEPH PAPPAS When Steph Pappas was seventeen years of age, she stood at Downtown Crossing in Boston, Massachusetts hawking the underground paper to pay for a one-way bus ticket to the Northeast Kingdom in Vermont. Just a teenager that escaped from the city and eloped with the country, Steph practiced up on her 12-string Harmony acoustic guitar and played her first open mike at Hunts in downtown Burlington, Vermont. Also at Hunts, the second open mike Steph played was standing room only. After that Steph recalls, "I'd come home after my day job, the phone would ring and it would be Hunts: 'Quick! Can you get down here? Jorma and Jack are late. We need you to play till they get here.'" After a stint playing cover tunes at ski resorts and a few other side projects, Steph helped form the all-girl rock band Miss Bliss. Patrick writes songs that have that rare combination of strong lyrics AND strong melody. Relix Magazine called him “one of the most captivating songwriters around today.” He is a three time Ploughshares songwriting contest finalist and has had his songs placed in several independent films. His latest CD, So Beautiful S...o Blue, has made several Best of 2008 lists and is being played on radio stations all over the country. He continues to tour throughout the northeast building a large and loyal following with his soulful, captivating performances. As a young boy, Patrick loved the singer/songwriters of the ’70’s, drawn to the works of such artists as Cat Stevens, Paul Simon & James Taylor. Though his first instrument was the drums, he eventually came full circle to follow the path of his childhood heroes. In high school in Sparta, New Jersey, he and two classmates formed a band that would ultimately become From Good Homes, a New Jersey based folk/rock band signed to RCA Records in the mid ‘90’s. FGH recorded three CDs with RCA & toured the country sharing the stage with Bob Dylan, Dave Mathews Band, Joan Osborne and many others. In 2000 the band broke up and Patrick moved to Vermont and began his solo career. http://www.patrickfitzsimmons.net

About Chris Dorman... "If there is an ounce of hesitation in the heart, a small part of the self stored away in the heart’s drawers and closets, as is the case with most of us, the textured combination of Dorman’s breathy, piercing vocals and the music on To Begin Again will coax it out and onward." - Tim Lane SCENE Metrospace It seems like family takes the form of much more than blood for this singer songwriter. Unassuming and charismatic at live performances… I have to say that the truths he sings of and songs he creates are part of a community I wish I was a part of. -Slowcoustic Chris Dorman's song Family Farm... will bring tears to your eyes. Greyspoke, a five-piece rock band from Burlington, Vermont, formed in 2003 as Greyspoke Variety at Burr and Burton Academy. The four original members (Rob Eaton, Jamie Heintz, Rudy Kiburis, and Mike Wheeler) decided to keep the band going beyond high school and chase the rock and roll dream in the Queen City. From fifteen-minute ‘Open Band Night’ Sunday slots to sold-out shows, residencies, trips across New England, New York, Ohio and PA, Greyspoke have earned their keep in the Northeast. With the addition of keyboardist Leon Campos and drummer Sean Preece, Greyspoke plans to expand their blend of psychedelic soul-funk slide-swinging rip rock in the studio and stage for years to come.
Shane Murphy is an acoustic singer-songwriter from the northern tip of the Adirondack Mountains. His music, though influenced by Tim Buckley and Tool, Jeff Martin and Jethro Tull, is more heartily the product of an interest in Portuguese fado, in Sephardic and Celtic music, and in anarchist theory. His lyrics and sentiments often tend toward the idea that, as Hesse suggests, "One never reaches home, but where paths that have affinity for each other intersect the whole world looks like home, for a time." He now lives and works in the Hudson River Valley.

It’s discovered down mistaken paths and in heartfelt hardships. Val Davis’ life has had its share of both. Music has always been his companion through it all. From his Southeast Missouri church upbringing where he fell in love with music, through his days of bad choices and worse booze to now; music is who he is. These days Val is busy making a living, fathering 5 kids and working on his second album. His first album “Texas Sky” garnered a lot of attention for something done during spare time in his home office. It was featured on NPRs “All Songs Considered”, received regular airplay at WXPN in Philadelphia, has been played on college radio stations and hundreds of Internet radio stations and podcasts. After many weeks in the #1 position on the acoustic charts, it has settled in the top #10 all time at Garageband.com. Val’s music has been compared to a cross between Stephen Stills and Peter Gabriel though such comparisons make Val uncomfortable. His music is what it is; poetic, flowing and real. Val says “my main hope with my music is that it moves people and maybe gives them pause to think”. His influences include those he is compared to as well as Leo Kottke, David Wilcox, James Taylor, Michael Hedges and many others. Here’s a review from CD Baby: “I first heard Val Davis' "Texas Sky" at garageband.com. I had to look for more from this artist. Found the Immortal CD, listened to an additional track or two and purchased it immediately. Power, grace, acoustic chops galore, and a songwriting style that grabs and holds. And lets not forget a voice that combines the best from Steven Stills and Peter Gabriel. I continue to be blown away by the talent in the independent music 'industry.' Val Davis has just shot to the top of my list.” Val is currently available for shows primarily in the North East (DC and North) though special arrangements can be made for shows in other parts of the country.
